Marmots, ibexes, eagles and chamois. Unforgettably beautiful alpine pastures. Crystal clear mountain lakes and jagged rock formations. Gorgeous alpine roses and blooming edelweiss. Untouched and wild nature scenarios at the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park.
In the thick of it: the traditional and quaint village of St. Vigil in Enneberg or “Al Plan de Mareo”, as it is called by the locals. Speaking of the locals: in addition to German and Italian, also today mainly Ladin is spoken. Bëgngnü! (Welcome!)
The mysterious Liondes, the legends are closely interwoven with the Ladin culture, old myths about witches and dwarfs, the heroic deeds of the beautiful Princess Dolasilla, the fierce battles for peace and against the dragons, which are still told today in St. Vigil in South Tyrol.

Living in the midst of nature
St. Vigil in Enneberg, together with the communities of Abtei, Olang, Prags, Toblach and Wengen, is located in the area of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park. The 25,680 hectare natural landscape offers a habitat to an endless variety of plants and animals. The protected area is also home to two of the most famous mountain lakes in South Tyrol, the Lake Braies, whose water surface glistens emerald green, and the Toblacher See. Only 200 m away from the Garni, you can learn more about the nature park at the visitor centre in St. Vigil and you can also marvel at the remains of the 50,000 year old Ursus Spelaus (a cave bear) from Conturines.
By the way, did you know that …
- … more than 250 km of mountain trails through the wild nature are waiting for you and that a section of the Transalp Challenge goes through St. Vigil?
